What would probably be a surprise is the fact that Swamy has been penning (literally ✒) #poetry in the eighties & nineties as well, a time when the format of புதுக்கவிதை (New poetry - literally 💃) was very popular. 😎 Since many of his #millennial (& Jurassic) pals may've no clue about this poetry phenomenon, Swamy decided to share some of his New Swamyems, i.e. புதுக்கவிதைகள், on #socialmedia. 😈
While enjoying or reacting to the க-விதை, do keep in mind that the stars of poetry world at that time were Meera (மீரா), Mehta (மு. மேத்தா), Kamarasan (நா. காமராசன்), Aathmanam (ஆத்மாநாம்) & the like and one Vairamuthu (வைரமுத்து) wasn't Emperor of Poets (கவிப்பேரரசு) yet! Oh btw, Swamy's all time favourite #author, the genius named #Sujatha was brushing aside some of the popular poems of that time as mere smart verbiage (புத்திசாலித்தனமான வரிகள்) that masquerade as #poetry 👊🙊
If there's one aspect of #poetry that assures its longevity (we still cherish திருக்குறள் & ஆத்திச்சூடி, don't we 👌), it's the fact that the ideas & imagination of a #poet remains fresh & relevant long after s/he's gone, even as the world as we know it has changed so much that it's hard to explain who #Kapildev & #SivajiGanesan are to our offspring!
Feel free to like, comment & share, after you cherish each #Swamyem, aka க-விதை, the vibrant poetry - short & long - series, from Swamy's youthful past, with a liberal dose of emotions from existential angst & enchanting love (he did eventually marry his sweetheart - quite a feat for an orthodox middle class boy in the small south Indian town of Madurai)! 🌻
